Paint as
memory, paint as
witness.

A contemporary mixed-media painter working between portraiture, abstraction and the textures of the everyday. The new exhibition, Every Day., opens June 19 in Las Vegas.

About the Artist

I paint to make the
ordinary
unforgettable.

Hykeem Gaddis is a contemporary mixed-media painter whose work moves fluidly between figuration and abstraction. Rooted in his upbringing in Las Vegas, his canvases are records of attention of small gestures, family rituals, and the kind of beauty that hides in routine.

Working in oil, acrylic, ink, gold leaf and collaged paper, Hykeem builds dense, tactile surfaces that ask the viewer to slow down. His palette is unmistakable: burnt orange, deep black, electric blue and cream colors he treats less like decoration than as voices in conversation.

His upcoming solo exhibition, Every Day., gathers two years of new paintings made during a period of personal transformation. It opens June 19 and runs through August at a private gallery in downtown Las Vegas.

The work begins long before the brush.

Each painting starts in a notebook fragments overheard, faces remembered, a color stuck in the mind. Only when the image refuses to leave does it reach canvas.
